Learning in Community
A large number of young people will take music lessons at some point in their lifetime. Many will give it up when the frustration gets too much to handle and the work isn't paying off. So what is the difference between the student who gives it up and the student who develops a lifelong relationship with a musical instrument?
Playing in community. In sports, it's simply fundamental: you can't play football by yourself - it takes a team. We at the 210 School of Music believe that music, like sports, is best learned as part of a team. It is through relationships that students are challenged to hone their craft, and through positive peer reinforcement, are encouraged to stick with it. Nothing quite beats the thrill of playing your favorite song with a group of friends. Add to that an audience and it can be a life changing experience!
As we teach students to play together in groups, the next step is to bring them outside the walls of the school to share their talents with a wider audience. Teaming up with the Riverside Arts Market and other local community events, we strive to provide these live performance opportunities to every student we teach.
Lessons in Life
Encouraging students to stick with it is not just about retaining customers here. We have seen firsthand the benefits of teaching students in the context of community. It is no secret that music challenges and exercises the brain in important ways. But beyond the mental benefits of learning an instrument, there are a number of social and emotional benefits to playing music with others that we particularly like to emphasize.
In an age where kids spend so much of their time interacting through text messages and social media, taking group music lessons is a fun and low pressure way for students to interact with peers face-to-face, developing the social skills they need to succeed as adults. Playing music in a group teaches teamwork, the ability to compromise, humility, and perseverance.
Even if our students don't go on to be rockstars or members of a symphony, we'll be proud to know that we helped shape their future by helping them develop the skills needed to thrive in any work environment.
The 210 SoM Vision
We're just getting started here. St. Johns County is a booming community where quality education is a top priority, and we are excited about the potential of a school of music in the heart of one of the fastest growing communities in the country. Because of our desire to provide students with the opportunity to play together in front of people, we see a community which in 10 years is teeming with musical talent and where live music is the norm at every restaurant and community event.
We also see a future where the St. Johns area is a hub for artists from all over the country to come to perform and record their music. We intend to steadily grow our recording studio to accommodate such demand and eventually build facilities that would include a state-of-the-art performance space, both for our students and for visiting musicians.

I began this school because my life was dramatically impacted when I started playing music with my peers as a middle school student. It gave me the confidence to form friendships, the skills to persevere through challenges, and a passion that kept me focused and motivated. It is a great joy of mine to teach and share a love of music with others. In so doing, I have formed some of the most meaningful relationships of my life. I sincerely hope we can offer that to every student who walks through our doors!

210 SoM is currently looking for Teaching Partners. Qualified individuals must:
Meet experience and/or education qualifications
Be able to teach from their personal studio or at private residences
Meet strict guidelines for the safety and comfort of our students and their parents
Teachers are considered independent contractors for tax purposes. We are looking for talented and fun-loving individuals who have a passion for investing in the next generation of young musicians. Most importantly, we want teachers who share in our vision and can see themselves highly invested in the development of the 210 SoM community.
